On 27th of October 2024 the Memorandum Signed Between the Center of Excellence for Mine Action and Environmental Safety and the NGO “Living Earth Initiative”.
During a meeting between Colonel Yuriy Sytnyk, Head of the Environmental Safety Department of the Main Directorate for Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety, Colonel Oleh Riabchuk, Head of the Center of Excellence for Mine Action and Environmental Safety, and Oksana Prosolenko, Chairwoman of the Board of the NGO “Living Earth Initiative,” the parties discussed areas of cooperation in scientific, technical, and expert-analytical activities in the field of environmental safety.
In particular, the discussion focused on environmental safety in areas contaminated with explosive remnants of war (ERW) and on raising public awareness of environmental threats associated with military actions.
Following the meeting, Colonel Oleh Riabchuk and Oksana Prosolenko signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership between the Center and the NGO “Living Earth Initiative.”
“One of the main areas of cooperation will be the exchange of information and experience in the fields of mine action, environmental safety, and the restoration of soil fertility. Equally important will be joint efforts in projects aimed at clearing contaminated territories from ERW, conducting joint research and data analysis in this field,” said Colonel Yuriy Sytnyk, adding: “We also proposed that the representatives of the NGO jointly develop relevant recommendations to improve national legislation in the sphere of environmental safety and mine action.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, guests were shown the Center’s laboratory, where specialists conduct instrumental and laboratory analyses of soil, silt, and water samples collected from ERW-contaminated areas and agricultural lands that have undergone demining.
