Project “LIVING CROPLAND" Initiative

Validated carbon emission reduction units from the implementation of regenerative agriculture

The “LIVING CROPLAND” Initiative is the first 100% Ukrainian climate agriculture project of European level. Based on the highest world standards, it complies with Core Carbon Principles, will allow Ukrainian agrarians to participate in the global voluntary carbon market, Scope 3 programs and become a leading supplier of low carbon agricultural products to EU markets.

Vision of the Initiative

The “LIVING CROPLAND” Initiative is more than a project, it is our partnership agreement with nature, where each of our actions leaves its mark on the health of the earth and contributes to sustainable development for the sake of the future.

Mission of the Initiative

It consists in promoting the creation of a sustainable future, implementing, together with agricultural business, innovative regenerative approaches in agriculture. Our task calls for reducing carbon emissions, restoring soil fertility and supporting biodiversity, creating agricultural products in harmony with nature for achieving sustainable agriculture and preserving the health of the planet for future generations.

  • The farm does not burn biomass or plant residues.
  • Agricultural production does not operate on protected areas, virgin lands, valuable soils, peatlands, or wetlands.
  • No activities are conducted on lands converted to cropland after January 1, 2008, and there has been no deforestation.
  • The farm does not participate in other voluntary carbon projects.
  • It commits to implementing regenerative practices and preserving biodiversity.
  • The farm commits to implementing new regenerative practices in its operations for at least 7 years.
  • The practices being implemented are new to the farm and/or have not been implemented in full scope.
  • Biodiversity improvement measures are being carried out.
  • Project funds are used for their designated purpose.
  • The received funds enable accelerated implementation of regenerative practices.

Regenerative Practices Recommended for Project Implementation

Recommended Regenerative Practices

Maintain Maximum Soil Cover

Crop Residue Management

  • Do not burn crop residues
  • Do not till crop residues into the soil; mulch crop residues instead
  • Evenly distribute crop residues
  • Use a stripper header

Minimize Soil Disturbance

Soil Tillage

  • Reduce soil tillage
  • Use chisel-less tillage without turning soil layers
  • Prohibit the movement of soil horizons
  • Implement mini-till, no-till, and strip-till methods

Maximize Crop Diversity

Crop Rotation

  • Wide crop rotation, increase sowing of legumes, sow perennial grasses, use binary cropping and intercropping schemes

Cover Crops

  • Sow green manure and cover crops, create ecological zones

Continuous Living Roots

Improvements

  • Plant crops with a long growing season
  • Use shelterbelt (strip) planting
  • Apply binary cropping
  •  Interseed cover crops
  • Sow perennial grasses

Integrated Livestock

Grazing Management

  • Reduce pasture trampling
  • Ensure even distribution of livestock
  • Preserve plant root systems

Additional Benefits

  • Must contribute to achieving sustainable development goals beyond the minimum sustainability requirements, specifically biodiversity conservation and water resource management
